KALFEIN MAIKEL WUISAN

Workshops

Film, media, writing, theatre, digital storytelling, and community-based learning.

I facilitate workshops in film and media, writing, theatre, digital storytelling, and cultural documentation. Each process is adapted to the people, place, language, and tools available.

For me, a workshop is not simply a space for transferring technical skills. It is a shared process of learning, exchanging experience, and developing ways to tell stories from within our own communities.

Since 2007, I have been involved as a facilitator and speaker in workshops on theatre, writing, filmmaking, photography, and digital media in North Sulawesi and other parts of Indonesia. This practice has grown through long-term engagement with Indigenous youth, community organisations, cultural collectives, and local media initiatives.

The following activities represent selected workshops from this continuing practice.

A Continuing Practice

These selected activities are part of a longer journey that began through theatre, writing, cultural work, education, and community filmmaking.

My approach is grounded in learning together. Technical knowledge remains important, but a camera, smartphone, or writing tool gains meaning through the person using it, the community connected to it, and the story that needs to be carried forward.

A workshop is therefore not limited to a classroom. It can take place in a village, forest, meeting house, church, community space, or wherever people gather to exchange knowledge and create work together.
