Synopsis
Childhood, Village Life, and Ministry
Pisang Goreng Professor brings together scenes of Minahasan childhood, everyday encounters, and memories connected to life in Wuwuk.
Children’s games and experiences are not used merely as background. They form part of the film’s local perspective—a way of seeing the village through relationships, humour, memory, and shared experience.
Within this setting, the film also introduces fragments from Reverend Ineke Jetty Akay’s ministry. Her presence is remembered through the relationships and experiences formed during her time serving the congregation and community in Wuwuk.
The film does not attempt to present her entire biography. Instead, it gathers selected moments that connect personal service with the wider life of the village.
Local Perspective
Minahasa as the Centre of the Story
The film places Minahasan locality at the centre of its storytelling. The village is not treated as a decorative setting, but as the social and cultural ground from which the characters, humour, memories, and relationships emerge.
This approach became an important characteristic of early works produced through Wuwuk Film: stories were developed from places, experiences, and people close to the filmmakers themselves.
Childhood Memories
Growing Up in Minahasa
Scenes of childhood give the film a connection to the shared memories of children growing up in Minahasan villages.
These moments carry more than nostalgia. They show how children learn through friendship, play, family, church life, and their encounters with the people around them.
Childhood becomes one of the ways the film speaks about community memory and the continuation of relationships across generations.
A Memory of Ministry
Reverend Ineke Jetty Akay in Wuwuk
Several parts of the film were developed from selected experiences connected to Reverend Ineke Jetty Akay’s ministry in Ro’ong Wuwuk.
Her ministry is approached through the traces left in relationships, encounters, and the memory of the congregation. The film therefore becomes both a creative work and a form of community remembrance.
Community Filmmaking
Stories Produced from within the Village
Pisang Goreng Professor emerged through collaboration among filmmakers and young people connected to Wuwuk.
The production reflects a filmmaking practice based on local stories, collective participation, and the use of film to record experiences that might otherwise remain only in personal or community memory.
Rather than separating filmmaking from village life, the production grew directly from the people, places, and events surrounding it.
