Jury, selection, and evaluation work for festivals, cultural programs, and competitions.
ABOUT THIS WORK
I contribute to jury and selection processes for film festivals, cultural programs, and competitions, with attention to context, community, and the ethics of representation.
Jury work is part of my longer engagement with literature, theatre, film, education, and cultural practice. Since 2012, I have been invited to serve as a judge in speech, poetry, theatre, short-film, and poetry-musicalisation competitions in North Sulawesi.
For me, judging is not only about selecting winners. The process requires careful attention to ideas, expression, technique, context, and the work developed by each participant.
My experience as a writer, theatre practitioner, filmmaker, photographer, and educator shapes the way I approach each work. Different forms require different considerations. A poetry reading cannot be assessed in the same way as a theatre performance. A short film also requires attention to image, sound, story, rhythm, and the relationship between form and intention.

Speech and Poetry Reading Competition
KPR KGPM Grand Camp, Pandu
Served as a judge for the speech and poetry-reading competition held during the KPR KGPM Grand Camp in Pandu.
The assessment considered the strength of the text, interpretation, vocal delivery, stage presence, and the participant’s ability to communicate meaning.
2013
Speech and Poetry Reading Competition
KPR KGPM Grand Camp, Kalait
Served as a judge for the speech and poetry-reading competition during the KPR KGPM Grand Camp in Kalait.
The jury process focused on clarity, interpretation, delivery, and the relationship between spoken language and audience engagement.
2016
Speech and Poetry Competition
KPR KGPM Grand Camp, Kapitu
Served as a judge for the speech and poetry competition held during the KPR KGPM Grand Camp in Kapitu.
The competition brought together public speaking and literary performance within a youth learning and cultural programme.

Youth Theatre Competition
GMIM Kawangkoan 2 Region, Kanonang
Served as a judge for a youth theatre competition organised by the GMIM Kawangkoan 2 Region in Kanonang.
The assessment considered acting, directing, ensemble work, stage composition, story development, and the relationship between performance and the ideas presented.
2017
Youth Theatre Competition
GMIM Kawangkoan 2 Region, Tombasian Bawah
Served as a judge for a youth theatre competition in Tombasian Bawah.
The jury process examined performance, interpretation, cooperation within the ensemble, use of space, and the overall coherence of each production.
2018
Short Film Competition I
Tomohon, North Sulawesi
Served as a judge for the first short-film competition organised in Tomohon by Honda Anmul Tomohon, Polres Tomohon, and Mapatik.
The assessment considered storytelling, cinematography, editing, sound, performance, originality, and the relationship between technical choices and the central idea of the film.
2018
Short Film Competition II
Tomohon, North Sulawesi
Served again as a judge for the second edition of the short-film competition organised by Honda Anmul Tomohon, Polres Tomohon, and Mapatik.
The competition provided a public platform for emerging filmmakers to present short audiovisual works and develop filmmaking practice.
2019
North Sulawesi Poetry Musicalisation Competition
Balai Bahasa Sulawesi Utara, Manado
Served as a judge for a poetry-musicalisation competition for senior and vocational high-school students across North Sulawesi.
The assessment considered interpretation of the poem, musical composition, vocal delivery, performance, arrangement, and the relationship between poetry and music.
Judging as a Learning Process
Jury work also creates a space for learning. Every competition offers an opportunity to encounter different approaches, artistic choices, and interpretations of a theme.
A jury carries responsibility not only toward the organiser, but also toward every participant who has invested time, thought, and creative energy in producing a work.
For that reason, I approach judging through careful observation, open discussion, and respect for the form, context, and intention of each work.
